Varenna is one of many Italian Lake District Villages nestled in the Alps. It is an easy one hour train ride north of Milan and makes a great place to cruise though jet-lag.  

Varenna to Menaggio and Bellagio is a leisurly ferry or hydrofoil ride away.  Buy the one day pass and visit all three villages.  (Menaggio in background--with only Hostel in area)

Bellagio is more touristic and up scale with lots of shops and Old World Elegance.

Looking for a "Villa" Experience?  Stay at Villa Cipressi or stroll through her sprawling garden.

For those with more energy, walk along the lake and discover waterfalls and other surprises, or head for the hills and visit Varenna's Castle.
