Subject: Denmark tip: "Be prepared to meet the necest
people!"
Hi Mele,
Well Denmark has been an exciting adventure, and not at all what I expected.
My stay
at
Copenhagen was at the Amager Vandrerhjem, which is the more modern of the
two HI hostels in Copenhagen. There are a lot of NON-HI hostels also, and
I'm finding this to be the case almost everywhere I've stayed. The HI hostels
maintain at least minimum standards of cleanliness and service, which is
NOT true of the non-HI hostels.
In Copenhagen I used a Copenhagen card to get around on the bus and
to visit Rosenborg. Also good for other attractions. I will go to Copenhagen
again when I leave Bornholm tomorrow, and then I will finally get to Tivoli.
I'm looking forward to that.
These last few days I have been in Allinge, on the Baltic island of
Bornholm, visiting with my family. Inga, the mother of those living here,
has been in hospital but is recovering, so I hope to get to spend more time
with her later in the trip. Her sons Øle and Jens and her daughter
Gitte have been very welcoming to me, and I've felt like visiting royalty
while I've been here. We've been discovering family members and counting
the relatives we have in common. We may have to notify the USA that the name
of New Jersey is now changed to New Swensen.
I've had the grand tour of Bornholm. I think there are only three
blades of grass I have not met yet! But even though the weather has been
Hawaiian, I wasn't able to get over to Christiansø this morning, when
it was cool and cloudy, so I came to Rønne instead to catch up on
email. I will be bringing back a LOT of pictures. I've already taken and
developed 5 rolls mostly here and in Copenhagen, of things 'sticking up',
as we've come to joke about the statues I can't remember the names of.
Tomorrow it's back to Copenhagen, then Ikast, Århus and Ebeltoft,
and Rebild on the 4th of July for the big festival. From there, time
will tell. If Inga is well enough, I'll go back to Bornholm, otherwise I'll
head to Oslo and Bergen and wait further news as I travel.
Enough for now.
TIP: when you come to Denmark, be prepared to meet the nicest people. They're
all here. Jim |
