Spain's fancy overnight Hotel Trains (known collectively as Elipsos or Talgo
Night) all have fancy names:

Francisco de Goya (Madrid-Paris),

Pau Casals (Barcelona-Zurich),

Salvador Dali (Barcelona-Milan).
These trains have expensive reservation fees,
but Eurail, Select,
Spain, Iberic,
France, France
combo, Italy and
consecutive-day Swiss Passholders can get
discounted fares on routes within their pass boundaries (give
up a flexi day and pay about half the full fare, which results in a range
from an $85 second class quad couchette to a posh $235 Gran Class single
compartment). Fast and direct, the trains make just a few stops. First-class
fares (for singles or doubles) include breakfast and your own toilet and
washbasin. Gran Class adds dinner and a shower in your compartment.

Reservation Requirements
To avoid this expensive luxury, change trains at
the Spanish border (at Irun- Hendaye on the west, at Cerbere on the eastern
side). You'll connect to a normal night train with $20 couchettes
on one leg of the trip. This plan takes more time, and may use two days of
a flexipass.
The 2009 Eurail Timetable that comes with your railpass covers very few routes
in Spain because they were not reported to the publisher in time. Correct
and complete schedules for all of Europe can usually be found at
DB Link. If that information also seems incomplete,

Spain & Portugal
(Iberia) is a reasonable area to rent a car (good rates, sparse traffic),
but distances can be long and boring. Rail passes are generally
good deal for long sleepable trips ie: Madrid to Barcelona or Matrid to Lisbon
.

Reservations are required on most long runs. Add cheap second
