MEET Mele Fujiwara

Trivi Fountain

Mele goes to Rome

Aloha,

Yes, that is me--completing a childhood fantasy as I toss my "three coins in a fountain". And oh what luck has followed me since! I've not only traveled to Europe regularly since 1987--I've gotten into this exciting business of helping others put their European dream adventures together.

With my thirst for European travel combined with my resource and information specialist training as a social worker,  it was easy for me to slip into the business of equipping travelers with the confidence, knowledge and skills needed to travel independently, economically and safely in a way that is culturally broadening.   I started by sharing what I had learned-- particularly from my misadventures and travel mentors--in Travel Skill classes taught through Hawaii's Adult Education. The coconut wireless got the word around and soon I was consulting with non-students too. And one thing led to another.

January of 1994 TRAVEL EUROPE RESOURCE CENTER -- affectionately called TERC--opened its French Door in my Hawaii Kai remodeled garage. Since then the research book/ video library has grown beyond its bookcases and even traveled from island to island and more recently to the mainland. The variety of bags and travel gear has changed and expanded to meet client needs.  And over nineteen hundred Happy Travelers  from around the world have joined TERC's mailing list and traveled like pros!

During this time, I became Hawaii's (& now the US's) European Rail and Trip Planning Specialist. Out of student requests, I started small group "Explore Europe" tours with an independent flavor. Privately, I find myself getting "off the tourist map" more and more and venturing into modes of travel that brings me closer to the "winds of the past" as well as the Europeans of today.

Meet TERC's Staff, Mentors & Volunteers

Adding the TERC web site as a tool for continued networking of the most useful information and resources for planning and implementing anyone's dream adventure is our most recent step. I am exhilarated by how it is networking and empowering both novice and experienced travelers through out the world. Thank you for joining us and sharing your tips.

I am grateful for the tremendous support I have been given by clients, family, friends and mentors to actualize TERC's mission thus far. The synergy of it has been amazing. I look forward to seeing where it leads us next.

Mahalo nui loa and Happy Travels,     Mele Fujiwara

In Loving Memory of Mele Fujiwara

When Mele started her travel business, she was just hoping to share her love of European travel with her neighbors in Hawaii. She couldn't have imagined that she would be sharing her love with people around the world. She had a great fondness for her clients and their trips became her trips. Mele departed on life's final journey in March of 2011. She is greatly missed by her family, friends and the many people whose lives she touched. This web site is a living tribute to her.
